Ryan Neil (18) is a staff writer for Youngspeak. Straight out of the ‘Burbs of Westborough, Massachusetts, Ryan brings that New England flair to the Youngspeak Sports team. Unsurprisingly, this makes his favorite teams the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Bruins. And although he doesn’t watch much EPL (due to living in the USA), he has a rather strange obsession with Dimitri Payet and West Ham United. Ryan will be covering the NBA and NFL with Youngspeak.
Being called the Derrick Rose of his generation, Ryan played competitive basketball from fourth grade until 10th grade, until two torn ligaments in his ankle kept him from playing competitively again. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Ryan used his passion forplaying basketball and instead diverted it into watching basketball. He watches every single Celtics game no matter what. Even if the Celts lose, there is nothing more comical and entertaining than the never-biased commentating of the great Tommy Heinsohn. Ryan has tweeted at Brian Scalabrine multiple times in his life and dreams that one day he will get a response.
Along with following his sports teams, Ryan’s passion also lies in the country of Rwanda. With one sister married and living out there, and his family now owning a house in the country, Ryan has travelled to Rwanda eight times in the past years. In his junior year of high school, he spearheaded a project for Rwanda which ended up raising just over $15,000.
Ryan also has a great passion for music. Although his four siblings all play instruments, Ryan’s passion doesn’t lie in playing music but listening to it. Rap and Indie music are his favorite. He also knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kendrick Lamar had the best rap album of this decade with “To Pimp A Butterfly.”
Celtics, Tank for Thon Maker!
