Nick Wooten (21) isn’t like the other Youngspeak wordsmiths. When he isn’t styling his sweet Tom Sellack-esque mustache or applying Moroccan surf paste to his luscious locks, he’s reading the New Yorker or watching the game. He enjoys a hand-cut ribeye cooked medium, Ernest Hemingway and quiet. He’s a Steelers fan. Greg Maddux is his favorite pitcher. End of bio.
Summer Perritt is a lifestyle and pop culture writer for Youngspeak, despite the fact that she is secretly 80 years old and has no life of her own. She is a sophomore at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and is pursuing a degree in journalism with minors in Spanish and history.
Summer traded in her historic and coastal hometown of St. Augustine, Florida, for the land-locked municipality of Macon, Georgia, in order to pursue her passion for writing at Mercer’s Center For Collaborative Journalism. Crafting words and stories has brought her solace for as long as she can remember.
Mel Blanke (21) is a senior at Mercer University double majoring in marketing and media studies with a double minor in dirty feminism (i.e. women’s and gender studies) and embarrassing herself at frat parties. She is just now realizing that she will most likely be made fun of by this staff for being a (long-suffering) New York Mets fan.
Mel’s dreams are to adopt all the homeless dogs ever and to eat as much pizza as she wants without imploding. Mel’s slightly more realistic dream is to work for Disney doing absolutely anything they will give her. She will take all three, though, if available.
Katie Atkinson believes in short bios. She is currently pursuing a journalism and media studies double major at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. As a news and pop culture junkie, Katie has been absorbing and creating online content for years.
Katie’s work has appeared in The Huffington Post, Southern Journal Magazine and The Daily Twist. She has attended journalism programs at George Washington University, The University of Georgia and Valdosta State University.
